STRETCH TEST
Tuesday 27/05/2025
"Today, after a long, cold and dark winter, I finally had the motivation to get back in the gym!
I went to to the Downs Leisure Centre, Seaford where I performed the crucial Stretch Test. The stretch test entails a series of 20 stretches, that are done in a particular order (generally speaking, from top of the body to the bottom of the body) to find out what muscles are tight in the musculoskeletal system.
I'd say it took me about an hour to perform.
I like stretching, it's a meditative practice for me and it feels good balancing the body out.
I logged my stretch test results on a piece of paper so that next time I'm stretching I know which ones to do and which ones not to do.
The only bits of equipment that I needed were a bench (you can use a chair at home), yoga mats and a correctly sized Swiss Ball (I'm 6'6" so I used the 75cm ball). You can get good Swiss Balls from Decathlon if you want to stretch at home.
The body adapts to stretching, exercise and lifestyle choices quite quickly so it is advised that the stretch test be done every 2-4 weeks to stay on top of your program.
I highly recommend doing the stretch test if you are an athlete and want to keep your body in good alignment for training but also to anyone else that wants to feel better for their general working and living environment.
